About Me

I started becoming involved in physical fitness when I realized I needed (and wanted) to make some drastic changes to my lifestyle. When I first started out, it was all about weight loss. However, soon I began to realize that even though my weight was steadily dropping, what was being left in its place was still my unhealthy relationship with food, my low self-esteem, and a generally bad feeling of self. It was the first time that I came to realize that even though how I felt about my external appearance was important, what I really needed to figure out was how to not just feel physically fit but actually feel good – inside and out.
I was fortunate that even though I wasn’t great at athletics or sports, I did find several physical activities I enjoyed. This helped me find ways to incorporate enjoyable movement into my daily routine. Finding something that I was passionate about motivated me to keep moving in a direction, leading me to a healthier life. As I grew more confident and eager to learn how to best take care of myself, I started to learn Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, to literally learn how to take care of myself in the form of self-defense. I surprised myself by completely falling in love with the martial art. The technical knowledge I gained through jiu-jitsu practice has been wonderful, but the confidence and empowerment it gave me made it invaluable. As I worked on my own transformation, I realized that building physical fitness, strength, and power was one thing, but discovering my inner strength was the real key to making long-lasting, sustainable changes for a happier, healthier life. This is what my coaching focuses on.
Once I got involved in teaching women’s self-defense, I knew I had found my calling. In the beginning, I was only focusing on teaching the techniques. However, as I taught more and more women, I started to notice a trend. Even though they were physically mastering the defences that were being taught, I noticed some universal doubts arising. What was amazing was that these doubts were expressed regardless of their age, socioeconomic class, educational accomplishments, or cultural background. It was this seed of doubt, hesitation, and self-deprecation that I decided to explore. It is what made me decide that teaching physical techniques is not enough; each person’s mindset also has to be addressed. So, while my passion for this started from physical self-defense techniques, I soon realized that even the will to defend yourself physically starts from cultivating and harnessing a self-belief that you are worthy, you are capable, and you are strong. It is with this in mind that our tagline is: strength comes from within.
I created She is Fierce because I wanted to provide women with the encouragement and support to go through this discovery process to unearth their inner strength. It takes hard work, patience, discipline, and dedication and even though all that may sound scary, it is totally worth it. With each bit of fear, hesitation, doubt you conquer, you will start to unveil an unshakable core. It is that strong foundation that I will help you build.
As a lifelong learner, I am constantly researching and investigating different ways to better myself. I understand what it means to struggle, to falter, to be stuck in a place where it feels like you will never get out. I understand what it means to experience loss, chronic pain, and illness. I understand what it means to have anxiety, depression, and paralyzing phobias. I have been through this all, and I continue to work through it all each day. Fortunately, years of personal study and research followed by years of successfully implementing these changes and programs for others, have brought me to this place – to She is Fierce. I welcome you to join me in this great adventure that is geared towards enhancing your overall well-being.
She is Fierce is not just another fitness routine or diet. There are no powders, pills, or packs that are being sold. She is Fierce is about empowerment. It’s about taking what you believe, what you stand for, and how you want to live your life and building it.
Training others and mentoring them as they find a way to live a healthy lifestyle is now my passion. I know how difficult it can be to make lifestyle changes and figure out a way to navigate family obligations, health issues, and various setbacks – mental, emotional, physical, and even cultural! I am committed to helping any person who is ready to take the first (or hundredth!!) step towards working towards their healthy lifestyle goals.
I currently do one-on-one training, coach small group classes, and hold workshops that focus on mindfulness and self-defense. I am also an ambassador for the Whole Life Challenge and I am captain of one of their official teams. In addition to being a certified Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instructor, I am a qualified MetaFit coach.
